Equipment you will need to cut the edge of the lawn

There are said to be gardeners who work the lawn edge with nail scissors. This is of course completely exaggerated. You can get lawn trimmers from specialist garden shops that will keep the edges wonderfully clean:

Cordless garden tools make cutting work easier

All devices come with an electric motor. Choose rechargeable batteries so you don't have to depend on a power source or electrical cord when cutting lawn edging.

Grass trimmers (€ 33.48 on Amazon *) and thread trimmers differ in that the trimmer is operated with knives, while the thread cutter cuts the grass with a tightly stretched thin thread.

For secateurs (€ 19.03 on Amazon *), make sure that the cutting length is as long as possible and that the handle is ergonomic. Ergonomic scissors put less strain on your hands and back, especially when you have to cut many meters of lawn edging.

Cutters with telescopic handles avoid back pain

Choose your garden tools for cutting lawn edging wisely. Above all, they should be equipped with an extendable handle or a telescopic rod.

As a result, you do not have to bend down to care for the lawn and so relieve your back.

Always wear gloves when cutting lawn edges to avoid blisters and calluses on your hands.

Cut the lawn edges first

You should always cut the lawn edges with the lawn mower before actually mowing. This saves you having to rake up the clippings. You can simply collect it in the lawnmower's grass catcher while mowing. You should not leave the edge cut lying around.

Design lawn edges with lawn edging stones

Cutting the lawn edges is easier if you surround your lawn with a mowing edge made of stones or other materials.

Lay the edge so low that you can simply drive over it with the mower when mowing. The edges then do not have to be trimmed additionally.

Tips & Tricks

If your lawn is separated from beds or paths by an English lawn edge, i.e. a seamless transition, you have to cut off the edges. This is the only way to get a clean lawn edge. Unpicked lawn edges make the garden look unkempt.
