Material and preparation
To ensure that the freshly wound thread does not tear or jam the first time it is used, read the correct size in the operating instructions before buying. If you have the new mowing line at hand, prepare to replace it by following these steps:
- Soak the cutting line in water for 24 hours
- Disconnect the grass trimmer (€ 26.75 at Amazon *) from the power, remove the battery or pull out the spark plug cable
- Open the mower head by pressing two latches on the side
- Take out the coil, spring and ring
- Pull out the old thread and dispose of it
- Put the spring and ring to one side, ready to hand

You can find out how long a new cutting line should be in the operating instructions for your lawn trimmer. Usually you can get by with 200 cm.
Thread the cutting line correctly into the bobbin - this is how it works
Bend the cut grass trimmer line in the middle so that one end is about 10 cm longer. At the kink, hook the thread into the roll. Please place the longer side in the lower groove. An arrow on the thread spool shows in which direction you are threading the double thread. Each half of the thread stays in its groove. The two wires must not cross each other.
There are two slots on the spool to fix the two ends. Insert each end of the thread into a slot, about 10 to 15 cm sticking out. Now you can reassemble the thread spool with ring and spring. While inserting the bobbin into the head, slide the ends of the thread through the corresponding holes on the outside at the same time. Finally, put the lid on.
Tips
If there is still plenty of thread on the bobbin, you can save yourself the hassle of winding up a new cutting thread. If the grass trimmer line does not follow suit, tap the mower head briefly on the ground while the engine is running. The thread brake releases and pushes a new piece of thread forward.
