Lilies - planting time for bulbs, seeds and young plants

Planting lilies: the right time for bulbs, seeds and young plants

Lily bulbs should be planted in autumn or spring. Early young plants from the hardware store, garden center, etc. are best planted from March and by May at the latest. The seeds of lilies should be sown in autumn. Alternatively, they are stored in the refrigerator and sown in the spring.

But there are two exceptions among the lilies that should not be planted in spring or autumn. They are planted in late summer between late August and late September. These are:

  • the Madonna Lily
  • the Turkish lily

Tips & Tricks

Planting lilies several days apart causes the plants to bloom at different times and the result is a longer flowering time.
