Harvesting mirabelle plums - this is how an early, high-yielding harvest succeeds

Harvest time for mirabelle plums

The general harvest time for mirabelle plums is between August and September. During this period you have a good chance of a rich yield of sweet ripe fruits in Germany. However, when the perfect time comes depends on a variety of different factors:

  • variety
  • maintenance
  • weather
  • Location

Harvest mirabelle plums by variety

Depending on the variety, the flowering time of the mirabelle plums varies and thus also the correct harvest time. The Miragrande variety, for example, is a late bloomer, so you can only harvest these fruits well into September. In rare cases, however, some varieties are ripe as early as June, depending on other site conditions.

Influence of care, weather and location

Most important for an early and high-yield harvest is pruning. The trees grow quickly and therefore need to be cleared in good time. Otherwise the fruits will have problems ripening. Too cool weather and increased rain also delay the harvest. In addition, at locations in southwest Germany you can usually harvest all varieties one to two weeks earlier than in the north or east.
