Choose a sunny, sheltered location with well drained, nutritious soil.
Plant the seedlings in the prepared soil and make a scaffolding to which you can tie them up later.
Protect young raspberries from frost
Raspberries are hardy. Nevertheless, you should provide light winter protection when planting in autumn. The plants then grow better.
Spread straw, fir branches or a layer of ripe compost on the bed.
Tips & Tricks
If you are planning to plant new raspberry bushes, prepare the soil well in advance. In August, sow a green manure such as bee pasture or mustard seed on the planned site, which you will undermine before planting. As a result, the soil remains weed-free, is loosened deeply and at the same time provided with new nutrients.
