Hibernate warm house club lilies at room temperature

Cordyline fruticosa and C. terminalis are among the best-known warm house club lilies. You need a warm location with temperatures between 18 and 20 degrees all year round.

Winter cold house club lilies in a cool place

Cordyline australis is the most frequently drawn species in our latitudes. Like C. indivisia, it is not hardy, but tolerates cooler temperatures.

Kalthaus club lilies can spend the summer on the terrace or balcony.

When it gets cooler than eight degrees outside, you should bring the plants indoors and prepare them for wintering.

Hibernate club lilies properly

Warm-house club lilies can also be left in their usual place in the house or winter garden during winter. The temperatures are not lowered. During the winter time these species are

  • little poured
  • very rarely or not at all fertilized
  • occasionally sprayed with water

Warm-house club lilies need high humidity even in winter, so you should mist them with water from the spray bottle every now and then.

Cordyline australis overwinter

Even if it is less demanding in terms of temperatures, the cold house club lily does not tolerate frost, because it is also not winter hardy.

During the winter time it is overwintered in a light, frost-free place. The temperatures should be eight to twelve degrees. A place in the cool greenhouse, in the hallway or by a bright basement window is ideal.

Water very little in the winter quarters so that the club lily does not dry out. You should refrain from fertilizing. After the winter break, get the plants used to the sun again, otherwise the leaves will burn quickly.

Tips

Club lilies are often confused with the well-known dragon tree and also sold as such. However, the difference is easy to see. Dracaena branches, while Cordyline does not branch and has wider leaves.
