Young plum trees
The runners of small plants are in the upper layers of the earth. Pay attention to the following care instructions:
- water regularly: small roots do not retain liquid.
- Generous tree slice: roots of perennials, bulbs or shrubs prevent sustainable development
In addition, you support the rooting process by removing the plum blossoms in the first year of planting.
Older specimens
Large plum trees have roots that are similar to the volume of the treetop. Planting in this area is to be avoided. Support tree growth by adding compost regularly as well as a protective mulch layer of grass. Bark mulch has an unfavorable effect.
If necessary, around 10% of the roots can be removed. To do this, leave this area free. An electric chainsaw is suitable for this purpose.
Tips & Tricks
When older plum trees change their location, the entire root ball must be dug out. Spring or late autumn is great for this purpose.
