Fight woodlice
Woodlice are useful in the garden as they eat up dead plant residues and thus contribute to the formation of humus. However, if they appear en masse in flower boxes, buckets or pots (13.19 € at Amazon *), they can cause damage. Since they cannot find enough dead material for nutrition, they also eat seedlings and young plants.
Ways to combat
Since these are useful animals, one should not use the chemical club. The best thing to do is to put empty pots upside down, fill them with shavings, wood wool or leaves and put bait (any vegetable) in them. The woodlice collect in the pot overnight and can be transported outside in the morning.
Another way to scare away woodlice is to sprinkle lava rock dust on it. (14.95 € at Amazon *) Flower pots treated in this way are not visited. You can also put the pots on feet. This way, there is no damp cavity and the woodlice stay away.
Natural predators
Woodlice have enemies in the garden that decimate the population. These include toads, frogs, hedgehogs and also various birds. If the infested flower pots are in the garden, enemies can intervene, but on a high balcony it becomes difficult. Other means must be used here.
Home remedies for woodlice
There are certainly poisons on the market for combating woodlice. However, you should only resort to it in an extreme emergency, as chemistry only damages the natural cycle and is not useful.
It is better to use home remedies. First of all, it should be ensured that the places where the flower pots are set up are dry. Woodlice do not like drought. Give the woodlice other places to stay. Sprinkle lava rock flour on the ground, ground cinnamon is said to also drive away woodlice.
