Pouring a kumquat
The kumquat is one of the thirsty plants, it should be watered abundantly in spring and summer. Make sure you add special fertilizers for citrus plants regularly. This supports flowering and, above all, fruit formation in later years.
The root ball must never dry out completely. If the pH of the irrigation water is too high, your kumquat can die. Avoid waterlogging by all means, otherwise the roots of your kumquat tree will rot. That is why a drainage layer in the planter is essential so that the excess irrigation water can run off.

Repotting a kumquat is only necessary if the planter is too small, otherwise it is sufficient to occasionally change the potting soil. It's best to do this at the beginning of the spring growing season. Planting in the garden is not recommended as the kumquat is not frost hardy.

For a short time, the kumquat can withstand even light frost. However, it should better overwinter frost-free, cool and bright. Because the roots must never freeze. A kumquat tree should be pruned regularly, especially when space is limited. Although it doesn't grow as fast in cooler areas as it does in Asia, it can grow to be considerable. The best time for pruning is in spring after the winter break. The pruning also promotes the formation of a beautiful crown.
