The unprocessed zucchini can be kept in the freezer for up to twelve months. Because it contains a lot of water, the best freezing results are obtained with small specimens. Even so, it can always happen that the zucchinis become soft and mushy after defrosting. They are now unsightly, but not inedible. It is advisable to puree the vegetables or to cook them in a soup.

Zucchini dishes that have already been cooked are suitable for freezing

Zucchinis that have already been cooked can be frozen in suitable freezer cans without any problems. However, the shelf life here is only up to five months. Frozen courgette dishes should always be thawed slowly at room temperature and only then reheated. Zucchini and a zucchini dish are not suitable for warming up in the microwave. Both become mushy and lose a lot of their taste.

What is the best way to freeze the zucchini?

Zucchinis are best frozen raw. In addition to conventional freezer jars, screw-top jars are also suitable as freezer containers. When freezing zucchini, do the following:

Wash the vegetables under running water and then dry them well.
Cut it into cubes or slices.
To remove some of the water from the zucchini before freezing, place them in a colander and sprinkle the vegetables with a little salt.
Catch the escaping water. With less water, the zucchini stays crisper when thawed.
After about five minutes, the vegetables can be poured into thick-walled glass vessels or conventional freezer boxes.
You can use the water that has leaked out in a soup.
Make sure to mark the best before date on the frozen food.
