This is how moss enhances your living space - tips for moss as a houseplant

Floral brainstorming for moss as a houseplant

Moss has earned the inglorious reputation of an annoying weed in the mainstream, which gardeners vehemently fight in the lawn and on the pavement. In order to integrate the rootless land plant as a houseplant in the design of the living space, a rethink is necessary. For your inspiration, we looked around at trendsetters and captured the following ideas:

  • Plant in shallow bowls on peat sand to create a green moss carpet
  • Settle moss cushions in the glass mini greenhouse, combined with decorative stones or small figures
  • Plant a glass cylinder with moss on peat

Japanese Kokedamas, which translates as moss balls, are innovative and creative. For this purpose, peat-containing potting soil is mixed with water and formed into solid balls. Moss pads collected in the forest or garden can be draped around the ball and wrapped tightly with fishing line or a similar binding material. For a splash of color, flower bulbs are inserted into the substrate ball before it is covered with moss.

Spraying regularly is the top priority

To ensure that moss retains its lush green color as a houseplant, spray the cushion regularly with soft water. This care is required daily in a sunny location with low humidity. Ideally, place the fluffy green decoration in a partially shaded to shady location with high humidity, such as the bathroom.

Tips

Moss likes to lie at the feet of exotic houseplants for an authentic appearance. As underplanting of bonsai, moss cushions help keep the earth warm and moist. In the cultivation of orchids, sphagnum moss acts as a natural additive to the substrate or creates a natural base for attached epiphytes on the branch.
