The seed of the linden tree
The linden tree is generally a very fertile tree. There are two ovules in each of the five chambers of the ovary within the flower system - so there are two seeds in each mature fruit. The large number of flowers results in a large number of seeds, which are often fertilized due to the popularity of the flowers with bees and other pollinators.

Growing linden from seeds
Growing a linden tree from a seed, however, is not entirely trivial. Above all, the project needs a lot of perseverance. It takes decades for a seed to turn into a young plant and eventually a full-grown tree. And especially in the early years, the sapling naturally needs care and protection.
You can of course collect seeds from the spherical nut fruits of a linden tree and try your luck. In seeds you can also buy seed packets for little money. The success rate will be higher due to the professional background.
In nature, a seed fruit carried away on the bract in autumn germinates in the following spring. Fruits harvested green can also germinate immediately.
Linden fruits to eat
What many do not know is that not only the flowers of the linden tree can be used in culinary delights - for example for tea or to flavor desserts - but also their fruits. The seed pulp within the nut fruit contains a lot of oil and is therefore extremely nutritious. However, only the fruits of the winter linden are really edible, the consistency of the summer linden is too hard. The seed fruits can be chewed as they are or cooked for even better edibility and digestibility.
