Hanging up garden tools - tips for clever tool holders

Build hook rail yourself - this is how it works

A large number of small and large hand tools for gardening are equipped with a hanging strap. A stable bar with hooks should therefore not be missing in any tool shed. You can buy the useful device ready-made at the hardware store or simply build it yourself. You need 1 log, 2 wooden blocks, screws, wood glue and double hooks. This is how it works:

  • Bevel the edges on both wooden blocks and sand them smooth
  • Drill a blind hole on the inside with the diameter of the round timber
  • Glue the log in with the glue
  • Screw the bar into the wall

Make holder for garden tools with handle yourself - step-by-step instructions

Anyone who has accidentally stepped on a rake and had a painful collision with the handle that shoots up will appreciate a tool holder for handle tools. The garden tool is stored here with the working head up. You need 2 boards, 2 strips of the same length, HT pipes or comparable plastic pipes, glue and screws. How to proceed properly:

  • In the upper board, drill holes for the HT pipes with a diameter of 40 mm at a distance of 25 cm
  • Make corresponding recesses in the base board with a Forstner bit
  • Glue the strips to the boards

First screw the base board to the wall. The correct distance of the upper holding board determines the length of the plastic pipes. Once you have attached both boards of the tool holder, insert the tubes to insert the stems of your garden tools.

Euro pallet - the device holder in no time at all

Creative gardeners have discovered euro pallets (€ 16.99 at Amazon *) made of wood for themselves to use to build flower boxes or cold frames. Set up upright, the wooden pallet is transformed into a practical tool holder for garden tools with a handle.

Store small garden tools cleverly - this is how it works in the old bicycle basket

You can attach individual hanging devices to the wall for small garden tools such as hand shovels, grass shears, hose heads or screwdrivers. It is easier and cheaper to use a disused bicycle basket. The two openings on the back are perfect for hanging with screws and nails or self-adhesive hooks.

If there is not enough space in your tool shed, simply hang your new collecting station for garden tools on the inside of the door. Incidentally, grindstones, gloves and safety glasses are also in good hands here and are quickly at hand if you want to sharpen a blunt blade in between.

Tips

The most ingenious tool holder is wasted effort when dirty garden tools dangle from it. Remnants of soil, sap and resin will stick your valuable garden tools together and rust them within a short time. If you treat spades, scissors, lawn mowers, etc. to a short maintenance program after work, you will enjoy their smooth operation for a long time.
