Separate winter protection is therefore not required in principle, with the following exceptions
- the rhubarb was only planted in autumn
- the plant is grown in a pot
In the first year, young rhubarb in the bed is given a layer of leaves, straw or brushwood to protect against frosty temperatures. A pot is wrapped with bubble wrap so that the root ball does not freeze through. A wooden base also protects against floor frost.
