Get out of the ground before the frost

Unlike the flowers, you must not cut the leaves of the Anemone coronaria. The plant gets its strength from the foliage.

It also makes it easier to see where your crown anemones grow and where to dig up the bulbs.

You should get the tubers out of the ground by the end of October at the latest. Using a digging fork, prick generously around the plant remains and dig up the bulbs.

Cut leaves and let onions dry

Before the tubers move into winter quarters, cut off the yellowed remains of leaves and remove all remains of the earth.

Let the onions dry out well to protect them from rot.

Store tubers properly

To properly store the corolla anemone tubers, you need a dark and cool place, but it must be frost-free. The place must not be too damp, as the onions will rot.

The tubers can also be overwintered in dry sand or dried peat very well.

Before you plant the tubers of the Anemone coronaria back in the ground in spring, water them for a day. The anemone will then sprout more quickly.

Tips & Tricks

Preferred specimens of the Anemone coronaria in pots are among the most popular spring flowers from the gardening trade. Similar to primroses, these plants do not tolerate frost. You should only set up a preferred crown anemone indoors.
