The Schefflera is in bloom - everything you need to know about it

Conditions for the onset of flowering

In order to be able to bloom, the ray aralia needs optimal location conditions and an owner with a 'green thumb'. She should feel like she is in her home country Taiwan ... Admittedly, that is difficult to implement. Therefore, it is only in rare cases that this plant blooms. As a rule, it is only the older specimens that feel willing to do so.

The following aspects promote the development of flowers:

  • tropical warm climate (warm location + regularly spraying with water are helpful)
  • very bright location (a window seat is ideal)
  • high humidity
  • no drafts
  • sufficient nutrients
  • Permanently moderately moist substrate

Does the Schefflera die after flowering?

Blossoms steal strength - no matter which plant it is. The same goes for the Schefflera. Therefore, it happens one or the other time that the plant loses numerous leaves after flowering, only grows poorly or even dies.

Are you afraid your Schefflera will die after flowering? Then it is better to cut off the inflorescences before opening the individual flowers. If you still want to risk it, keep giving the plant the right amount of care and with luck it will bloom again next year ...

Externals of the flowers

A shoot suddenly shoots up. Small, spherical formations stick around it. This is what the blossoms look like:

  • rather inconspicuous
  • hermaphroditic
  • radial symmetry
  • white anthers and green stamens
  • five to eleven petals
  • racemose, elongated inflorescence

Tips

Some have waited for decades for flowers. However, if no flowers appear, it is not a cause for depression. The flowers are not particularly spectacular and even give off a sticky film.
