The best harvest time for fresh wild blueberries

Summer fruit enjoyment from nature

Forest blueberries can usually be picked directly in the forest from around the end of June to the end of August. Depending on the weather in spring and early summer, this period can shift forwards or backwards by around one to two weeks. Since blueberries do not ripen, you should only pick them with a dark blue color. Due to the limited shelf life, you should process wild blueberries that are not intended for fresh consumption as quickly as possible:

  • by boiling into jams

    to juices

  • to refined liqueur creations
  • as a fruit in cakes

Be quick when enjoying fruit

Particularly when harvesting with a blueberry comb, individual wild blueberries can easily tear open on their thin skin. These should be sorted out when washing, otherwise they greatly increase the susceptibility to mold of all blueberries collected.
