Water less after flowering. Stop watering when the leaves turn yellow.

How do you fertilize the Orange Milky Star?

It is only fertilized before and during the flowering period. To do this, use a liquid fertilizer that is given every fortnight.

Are you allowed to cut Ornithogalum dubium?

You are only allowed to cut the faded inflorescences. Be sure to let the leaves stand after flowering. They ensure that the onions are adequately supplied with nutrients. The leaves pull in by themselves after a few weeks.

Remember that Ornithogalum dubium is poisonous! Make sure that cuttings do not get into the hands of children.

Does the milk star have to be repotted?

Repotting is not necessary. The tubers are taken out of the pot anyway as soon as the leaves of the milk star have pulled in.

Which diseases and pests can occur?

After the flowering period, the leaves turn yellow and retract. This is normal and not a disease. If the onions rot, you've probably watered too much.

Watch out for aphids! Rinse off an infestation with water and, if necessary, spray the leaves with nettle solution or commercially available agents.

How do you care for the tubers in winter?

When the leaves are absorbed, remove the onions from the pot. Shake off the soil well and put the tubers in a place where they can dry.

Winterize the dried onions in wood wool or paper bags in a dark, frost-free place. The onions contain a lot of toxins and must therefore be stored away from children and animals.

  • Store onions in wood wool or a paper bag
  • dry, dark place
  • secure from children and pets!

Tips

Ornithogalum dubium prefers a bright, warm location in the flower window. After the flowering period, you should leave it in place for some time. Occasionally you will get a second bloom.
