In a vessel or in the aquarium
As a tropical plant, the mussel flower is extremely sensitive to frost, so you should overwinter it before the first frost sets in - preferably from the end of September. To do this, the plant is fished out of the garden pond with a landing net.
For wintering, both a glass vessel with a thick layer of clay and an aquarium can be considered. The following aspects are important:
- bright
- between 15 and 26 ° C warm
- very damp or wet
- in the aquarium: pH value between 6.5 and 7.2
- thin out regularly
- suspend again in spring
Tips
Wintering in the aquarium is quite useful. The mussel flower counteracts the formation of algae.
