It is best to propagate sedum plants vegetatively

Propagation by cuttings

As a thick-leaf plant, the sedum plant is best propagated using leaf cuttings; ie a single leaf is enough to grow a new plant from it. This is a great way to use non-blooming shoots as cuttings. The best time to propagate cuttings is spring between April and May.

Cut off mature, well-developed, healthy leaves.
Let it dry for a day or two so that a protective layer of dry tissue can form on the wound site.
Then put the leaves with the stem down in a planter.
This is filled with a mixture of sand and peat.
Only the base of the leaf is covered by substrate.

Multiplication by division

Specimens that have grown very large can be both reproduced and rejuvenated in spring by dividing them. To

carefully dig up the perennial with the help of a digging fork.
Now remove the adhering earth (e.g. by shaking off)
and check the roots for any injuries.
Now tear the plant apart with your hands.
Alternatively, you can use a spade to help.
Each part must have at least one shoot and strong roots.
Immediately plant the divided plants in the previously determined location.
Thoroughly water the young sedum leaves.

Of course, you can also put the plants in pots.

Sow sedum plant

If you want to collect seeds yourself, just leave the faded inflorescences and then - depending on the type and variety of the sedum plant - collect the ripe seeds in October or November. In the spring, simply sow the fine seeds generously on the prepared soil (dig up thoroughly and finely crumble) and moisten it. Since the sedum plant is one of the light germs, it is not necessary to cover it with earth or sand. Alternatively, just leave the seeds on the plant, because the fat hens are very reliable in sowing themselves.
