A tomato plant invests a lot of energy in its flowering. This process is usually at the expense of the fruit hanging. Therefore, only leave as many flowers on the shoots as you want to harvest tomatoes. All tomato blossoms should be broken out by September at the latest so that the remaining fruits can ripen better. If tomatoes are still emerging from fertilized flowers at the end of the season, the plant supplies them with water and nutrients without any prospect of maturity.
