So you can build an irrigation for the hedge yourself

Why is watering a hedge so important?

Whether or not you actually need to water your hedge depends on a number of factors. In addition to the hedge plants used, the quality of the soil, the intensity of the sun and the weather play a significant role. Some plant species do not need additional watering, watering could only be important in hot dry periods. Others will do better if you keep them hydrated on a regular basis. In terms of soil quality, the rule applies that hedge plants in sandy soils must be watered more than those that are in loamy soils. Furthermore, the age of the plants has an influence on the necessity and frequency of watering: the younger the hedge, the more important an external supply of moisture is. This favors the growth of the plants.

A simple irrigation system for the hedge

A simple form of hedge irrigation uses a combination of irrigation hoses that are laid along the hedge on the ground and connected to a water source. You can use both a water tap in the garden and a large rain barrel for this. For the latter, however, a submersible pump is usually required to pump the water from the reservoir to the hedge. It is also necessary to refill the bin regularly, which can be done, for example, via rain or via an additional connection to the tap. This irrigation system can also be installed with little manual skill and is also suitable for other regions in the garden to be watered.
