Their properties make peppers ideal potted plants. Because they originally come from Central and South America, they prefer a sunny location protected from rain and cold.
To grow peppers in pots you need:
- Seeds from peppers or paprika plants
- 10 liter pots or buckets
- Seed substrate or potting soil
- Sowing soil
- Bamboo sticks
- fertilizer
The soil should be loose and rich in nutrients. Avoid waterlogging! When the soil is dry, water the peppers from below and keep the leaves dry. Provide once a week with a mixed fertilizer that contains plenty of potassium, phosphorus and magnesium but only a little nitrogen. Or use slow release fertilizer when planting. At the end of July you can already harvest and enjoy the first wonderfully fresh, crunchy peppers.
Tips & Tricks
Homemade fertilizer: Fill a watering can with fresh nettles and the stripped paprika shoots and then add water. Let ferment for 2 weeks. Then fertilize paprika with diluted nettle broth once a week or spray it off.
