Which soil should be used for house lice?

Most house lice simply doesn't care whether the substrate is basic or calcareous. The main thing is that the soil is beautifully thin and well-drained, then the mountain plant feels comfortable all around.

Where can houseleek be planted? What original plant ideas are there?

Hauswurzen cut a very good figure in the rock garden, but they also green walls or roofs. In addition, the small succulents can be wonderfully planted in the most unusual planters, provided they have good drainage. Use groupings of stones, old roof tiles, old dishes or the like and create an interesting eye-catcher by combining different house lice.

Can houseleek be cultivated in the room?

Sempervivum needs light, air and, above all, the winter cold. For this reason, the outdoor succulents are not suitable as indoor plants, but can instead be grown very well in small planters on the windowsill or balcony.

When is the best time to plant house lice?

Container plants can generally be planted during the entire vegetation period, but the best time to plant is in spring.

At what distance should houseleeks be planted?

Since most house lice stay small, they can be planted quite close together. When buying, however, inquire how large the desired species or variety can be and how large the ideal distance for this variety is.

Can houseleeks also be sown?

House lice can be propagated well via seeds, provided you have enough patience and a sure instinct. The very fine seeds are best sown in small plant pots and put outside over the winter. Hauswurzen are cold germs.

How can houseleek propagate?

In principle, however, propagation via daughter rosettes is much easier than by sowing. These secondary rosettes are offshoots that can be easily separated from the mother plant and replanted.

When do houseleek bloom?

Most types of houseleek develop white, pink or yellow flowers between June and August. However, this is only the case for the first time with specimens that are at least two to three years old. Rosettes that have faded can be cut away as they will then die off. Houseleek blooms only once, with the daughter rosettes continuing to grow.

Good and bad neighbors

Houseleek can be socialized very well with other flat-growing rock garden plants, for example with low-leaved stonecrop, saxifrage, thyme, pasque flower, checkerboard flower or five-pound herb.

Tips

When planting, mix a little horn shavings (€ 6.39 at Amazon *) or ripe compost into the plant substrate, as the color of the rosettes will then intensify - but really only a little!
