Ways To Repair A Zinc Pan
silicone
The all-rounder silicone is probably the first thing that comes to the mind of avid do-it-yourselfers when an object needs to be sealed. However, the product is not always as effective as expected. Whether you can seal your zinc tub with silicone depends on how it is used. If you use the tub as a flower bed and only fill the container with soil, the use of silicone is not a problem. However, if your zinc tub houses a mini pond, a silicone seal will not hold up.
When applying it is important that you always work on the outer wall.

Seal with pond liner
If you want to seal a mini pond, you should use pond liner. Use this to lay out your zinc tub. Be careful not to wrinkle it.
Fiberglass mats and synthetic resin
Two other useful tools are
- Fiberglass mats
- and synthetic resin
You can get both utensils in car dealerships, with a little luck even in the craft shop.
When sealing, proceed as follows:
- Pour the viscous resin into a tub.
- Dip the mat into it.
- Attach the mat to the leak of the zinc pan.
Attach spare parts
Zinc trays are mostly made of the same material as your gutter. Do you have any scrap left over from assembly? Then just solder this onto the small crack. However, you should first weigh up whether the effort is really worth it. Soldering irons are expensive and often far too expensive to repair tiny cracks. However, if you have the option to borrow the tool, it is definitely worth using.
Tips
Never used a soldering iron before? Then ask a roofer for help.
Alternatives
Maybe repairs are unnecessary. If the hole is at the top of the zinc tub, simply pour shallow water into the tub and plant aquatic plants that will thrive even when the water level is low, for example:
- double marigold
- heart-leaved frog spoon
- fresh green cyprus grass
- Arrowhead
