Does Gemswurz have to be poured?

Like all spring bloomers, Gemswurz only has to be watered when it has not rained for a long time. The soil shouldn't dry out completely, but it shouldn't be too damp either. Gemswurz does not tolerate waterlogging at all.

How is Gemswurz fertilized?

Gemswurz is a very undemanding plant that gets by with few nutrients. It is enough if it is fertilized in spring with a little organic fertilizer or ripe compost.

It is even better if you mulch the soil around the chamois with organic materials. This releases sufficient nutrients. In addition, the soil moisture is kept constant.

When is Gemswurz cut?

Cut off dead and dried parts of the plant as soon as possible. This will extend the flowering time. Gemswurz can withstand heavy pruning in autumn. At this point you can cut the plant back to the ground.

If you missed the pruning in autumn, use scissors in spring and shorten gemswort to about ten centimeters.

Is it necessary to split Gemswurz?

Gemswurz is perennial and increases in size over time. You should dig up and divide the plant every three to four years in spring.

  • Dig up chamois root
  • Split it in the middle with the spade

  • replant both pieces

Which diseases and pests occur?

Gemswurz is a very robust plant that rarely suffers from diseases or pests.

If the plant begins to rot, this is usually due to the soil being too moist or even waterlogged.

Does Gemswurz need winter protection?

Gemswurz is native to the Alps and therefore tolerates the cold well. Winter protection is not required.

Tips
