The correct planting distance for currants
- Bigger berries thanks to more sun
- Easier harvest
- Easier maintenance
The planting distance should be at least one meter for small varieties. For currants that grow very tall, a distance of up to two meters is ideal. Then the shoots of the bush get more sun and bear larger fruits.
Harvesting and maintenance work are easier with a greater planting distance. To pick berries or to cut the shoots you can simply walk around the bush.
Tips & Tricks
If you want to plant several currant bushes in the garden even though you have limited space, choose standard plants. High-stemmed currants do not need that much space, but they have to be fertilized additionally.
