  • A lawn without mowing - create a lawn substitute or a wild meadow

However, this only works if you mow the lawn so often that the cut stalks are a maximum of two centimeters long.

The advantage is not only in the simple disposal, but also in the fact that you fertilize the lawn through the cut at the same time.

Compost grass clippings

Many gardeners believe that clippings cannot be composted because the damp blades of grass stick together, rot and start to stink.

If you spread the clippings out on top of the compost and let them dry a little before disposing of them, that's no problem.

On the compost heap, the clippings should be mixed with other materials such as leaves, small twigs or, if necessary, some paper. It then rots faster.

Mulch with grass clippings

Many plants in the garden love a mulch cover because it prevents the soil from drying out, provides it with nutrients and keeps weeds away.

Short lawn cuttings are well suited as mulch material under bushes and trees. You should chop very long stalks beforehand. Lawn mulch is especially good for rhododendrons and conifers. You also have less work to do with pulling weeds.

Only use grass clippings that do not have inflorescences for mulching. Otherwise you will be sowing lawns in unwanted places.

Disposal via organic waste

If none of the options come into consideration, dispose of the lawn clippings in the organic waste bin provided by the city cleaning service.

Some cities also offer places at certain times where the clippings can be chopped up and disposed of free of charge.

Tips & Tricks

From a purely legal point of view, lawn clippings are considered waste. So you are not allowed to dispose of the cut in the wild, even if it is fallow land, meadows or forests. Substantial fines are due for illegal disposal.
