Christmas rose or spring rose?

The term “Christmas rose” is often used as a generic term for all hellebore species that bloom in winter and spring. That's not exactly correct. Often these are spring roses.

The difference between Christmas roses and Lenten roses is that the flowering time of the Christmas roses begins in December, while the spring rose blooms longer.

If you keep a Christmas rose in the garden that bears flowers in April and later, it is in all likelihood a spring rose.

Tips & Tricks

The hardy Christmas rose is one of the most easy-care plants in the garden. With its evergreen leaves, it provides color even in the cold winter. The flowers look particularly pretty when they protrude from a blanket of snow.
