Vegetables or fruits? Neither!
Surprisingly, maize is neither a vegetable nor a fruit, but a sweet grass. So corn is a grain. But compared to wheat, rye and other types of grain, the ear (ie the fruit cluster) is very large. Like other sweet grasses, maize is bisexual and can be dried well for preservation. The seeds also contain a lot of starch and carbohydrates, which are converted into sugar by the body.
Tips & Tricks
Corn starch is great for thickening soups, sauces or stews with low calories. Pot cakes are also particularly fine with a little corn starch instead of flour.
