Hibernate hyacinths properly

Hibernate hyacinths outdoors

Since hyacinths can tolerate frost, you do not need to cover the onions in the bed to protect them from the cold.

Hibernate hyacinths in a pot

During the winter break, put the hyacinth bulbs in the pot in a cool and dry place. An unheated hallway window is well suited. To keep the tuber cold, take it outside for several days in cold weather.

Hibernate hyacinths as a tuber

In order for the tuber to sprout next year, it needs a cold phase. Put them out in a very cool place for a few weeks. The vegetable compartment of the refrigerator can also do the trick.

Tips & Tricks

Store hyacinth bulbs in a dark, dry and cool place as possible. The onions overwinter best in a little dry peat or wood wool.
