Promising: Propagation by leaf cuttings

If you multiply your variegated Sansevieria with leaf cuttings, do not be surprised: These do not take on the color of the mother plant, but become a solid green like the original wild form. And this is how you proceed with this form of propagation:

  • Tear off a leaf from the sansevieria.
  • Divide this into cuttings about 10 to 15 centimeters long.
  • Put them to dry in a light and warm place for a day or two.
  • Fill the growing pots (14.90 € at Amazon *) with cactus soil.
  • Insert the cuttings about three to five inches deep,
  • where the side is planted that was already the lower one on the leaf.
  • For the project to succeed, it has to be at least 20 ° C
  • and also be bright (but not directly sunny!).
  • The first shoots only appear after a few months -
  • So you need a lot of patience.
  • Until then, keep the substrate slightly moist
  • and let it dry off in between.
  • Remove the old leaf as soon as the cutting has formed one large or several smaller leaves.

Always works: share bow hemp

Probably the easiest way to propagate bow hemp is to separate and plant the cuttings separately.

  • You can easily combine this method with repotting.
  • Get the whole root ball out of the pot
  • and gently shake off the soil.
  • Now carefully separate the offshoots from the mother plant with a sharp knife.
  • You can also divide the whole plant by cutting it into several pieces.
  • Plant the resulting individual plants separately in plant pots
  • and place it in a warm and bright location.
  • Avoid direct sunlight and drafts.

Quite a laborious affair: sowing bow hemp

Also possible, but quite laborious - since both a consistently high temperature and high humidity must be guaranteed for several months - is the propagation of the bow hemp by sowing. You can buy the seeds on the Internet or in specialist shops or harvest them yourself. To do this, however, your Sansevieria must bloom and then develop seeds.
