Preserve strawberries perfectly - from the bed straight into the glass

Cleanliness is paramount

Bacteria are killed in the food; The shelf life of the strawberries is of course only guaranteed in perfectly clean glasses. In addition, all work materials must be carefully cleaned before canning. For the preparatory work, we recommend following the checklist below:

After the materials have been sterilized, it is the turn of the freshly harvested strawberries. Use only ripe, undamaged fruit. Do not wash these under running water, but in a bowl. In the last step, cut off the green sepals so that the fruits do not become unnecessarily saturated with water. Weighing is only now carried out so that the recipe for preserving is correct.

Once the preparations have been completed, the actual waking up begins. Fill the strawberries into the glass jars without exerting too much pressure. Then dissolve 300 grams of sugar in 1 liter of water and pour the mixture over the strawberries. Now wipe the edge of the glass, put the rubber ring on and close the jar with a bracket. So it goes on:

  • Place the canning jars in a large saucepan so that three-quarters of them are in water
  • attach a special thermometer to the edge of the kettle for awakening
  • heat the water to 75 degrees for 25 minutes
  • After the cooking process, let the glasses stand in the water for a few minutes

Finally, take the mason jars out of the kettle and spread a tea towel over them. Water vapor and air now contract again so that the desired vacuum is formed. After canning, store the canned strawberries in a cool, dark room.

Waking in the oven made easy

Investing in a special canning kettle is not always worthwhile. Instead, use your oven to preserve your strawberries for. Place the filled and sealed glass containers on a high baking sheet that is 2 centimeters high with water. Heat the oven to 175 degrees for 25 minutes. Then cool the strawberry glasses in the oven for 30 minutes.

Tips & Tricks

When canning strawberries in twist-off glasses, there is no need to cook them in the glasses. Instead, prepare the recipe in a saucepan and pour the finished mixture into the glass containers. After unscrewing the lid, turn each jar upside down for a few minutes.
