Sow the lettuce in seed trays

Lettuce can be served as early as February. As soon as there is no more frost outside, he can move into the open air. In this case, you can harvest fresh lettuce as early as May. For later sowing, it is unnecessary to prefer the lettuce. Instead, sow it directly in the field.

Sow the lettuce outside

As soon as frost is no longer expected, you can sow the lettuce directly in the field. The ice saints at the end of May are a guideline for this. From this date onwards, you can sow your lettuce outdoors without any problems. How to do it:

  • Loosen the earth with a hoe or spade.
  • Mix in a few liters of compost.
  • Lightly water the soil.
  • Press small pits about half a centimeter deep into the earth at a distance of at least 25 cm.
  • Put the seeds in the holes and cover them with soil.
  • Carefully water the bed.
  • Provide snail protection if necessary.

Harvest the lettuce continuously

If you want to harvest lettuce all year round, you can re-sow the lettuce every week. For sowing in summer, you should then choose a medium variety that is more heat-resistant than early varieties and can therefore also be harvested in midsummer.
