Not every type of corn is suitable for popcorn
Popcorn is always made from corn - however, not every type of corn is suitable for popcorn. Types with a thin but very hard shell are ideal for fluffy, tasty popcorn. These properties are only possessed by species that belong to the popcorn or pearl maize (sometimes also referred to as popcorn). The production of maize with other maize varieties is only possible with poor results or not at all, because the grains are either too dry or too soft.

Delicious homemade popcorn
First of all, put oil (sunflower or rapeseed oil is best) in a pan and put a thin layer of powdered sugar on top. Heat the oil slowly until the sugar caramelizes, then add the (dried!) Corn kernels. Put a lid on the pan and gently rock it back and forth. By swirling, the sugar evenly coats all the grain. Turn down the initially high heat as soon as the first grain pops. Keep swiveling so that nothing burns. Calculate about two small cobs of corn for a large bowl of popcorn. Good Appetite!
Dried corn for pets
Dried corn is also a healthy food for many pets. For this purpose, however, you should not use puffed corn, but preferably vegetable or fodder corn types such as Golden Bantam. Forage corn is also edible for humans, because the biggest differences between these species are the size of the cobs (vegetable corn is larger) and the starch content (feed corn contains more starch). In particular, poultry such as chickens, ducks and geese, but also rabbits and even dogs like to eat corn.
This is how corn dries properly
Corn, which is to be used for making popcorn or for feeding animals, can be dried for better shelf life. Popcorn corn in particular needs to dry, otherwise it will not “pop” properly. Before corn can be dried, however, it must first ripen. Corn has the right degree of ripeness when the grains are hard and dry - in other words: no longer suitable for raw consumption. Now hang the corn on the cob individually on a string in a room warm (between 20 and 22 ° C). You can still dry for about two weeks here before the grains are carefully peeled off the cob with a sharp knife.

Caution: Since corn contains a lot of starch, which is converted into sugar, too much corn can actually make pets fat.
