Climbing trumpet is very easy to multiply

Climbing trumpet spreads very quickly

Actually, you don't need to worry too much about the propagation of the trumpet flower, because the very vigorous plant spreads very quickly with seeds and cuttings (and if you are not careful, even over a large area!). If you want to avoid this uncontrolled spreading, you should remove the fruits before the seeds ripen and prune the plant regularly and vigorously.

Propagation by cuttings

For controlled propagation, cuttings generally work very well. Green head cuttings are used for this.

  • In summer (around July), cut off this year's shoot tips between eight and ten centimeters long.
  • Remove the lower leaves.
  • Plant the cutting in sand.
  • Put a clear plastic bag over it.
  • Put the pot in a warm place.
  • Keep the sand moist, but not too wet.
  • As soon as new leaves appear, the cover can be removed gradually.

Hibernate the cutting in the greenhouse or in a cool room at around 10 to 12 ° C. The young plants should only be planted out next spring.

In addition, propagation through root cuttings or subsidence is very possible.

Propagate trumpet flower by sowing

If you want to propagate the climbing trumpet with seeds (perhaps you have collected yourself), a preculture is recommended in early spring, for example on the windowsill or in the greenhouse.

Tips

If you want to avoid the uncontrolled spread of the trumpet flower through root runners, then it is best to plant the plant together with the plant pot (remove the soil beforehand!) In the ground.
