These framework conditions define the ideal location
Before you choose the location for an orchid, please take a look at the light and temperature conditions in the habitat. The majority of the flowers thrive as epiphytes in the rainforest. Here they are enthroned high on the branches of giants of the jungle, with the thick canopy of leaves softening the strong sun. The better the location on the windowsill simulates these framework conditions, the more opulent the blossoms:
- Bright location without direct sun at noon
- In rooms no more than 1 meter away from the window
- Warm temperatures in summer around 25 degrees, in winter not below 18 degrees Celsius
- A high humidity of 60 to 90 percent

The west and east window sills are perfect for floral displays. If a curtain or awning catches the midday sun in summer, the south window sill is also an option. In order to provide orchids with tropical humidity at the same time, we recommend a bright window seat in the bathroom. On the other hand, only a few shade-tolerant orchid species are really equipped for a low-light location at the north window.
