The maturity of the seeds can be recognized by the fact that the seeds become very dark and almost automatically detach themselves from the flower.

You tear up the mother plant after harvesting the seeds and compost them. You shouldn't use parsley leaves in the kitchen after flowering, as they contain too much apiol.

Drying seeds

Let the collected parsley seeds dry for a few days in an airy place for propagation.

Then put the seeds in a paper bag or, even better, a bag made of parchment paper. Store the bag in a dry, not too warm place.

Parsley seeds keep for up to three years.

Warning: parsley seeds are poisonous

When you have harvested seeds from your parsley plants, you should carefully save them. Under no circumstances should it get into the reach of children or pets.

The seed contains high concentrations of the poisonous apiol, an essential oil that causes severe discomfort from the contractions of the digestive organs and uterus.

Sow parsley

You can sow parsley in several ways:

  • From February on the window sill
  • From March outdoors
  • From August outdoors

If you want to cultivate your parsley on the balcony or window sill, choose sowing as early as possible under favorable conditions.

It is better to sow parsley outdoors in August. Then you will have fewer problems with pests and diseases later.
