Various mushrooms are hidden behind “brown caps”
Behind the cultivated mushroom “Braunkappe” is actually the reddish brown Giant Trümmling (Stropharia rugosoannulata), which occurs between August and October mainly in fields, fields (especially in maize fields) and in gardens. In addition, the chestnut bolet (Xerocomus badius) is also popularly referred to as “brown cap”. This edible mushroom cannot be cultivated in the garden at home, however, in contrast to the red-brown giant deer.
When to find the chestnut boletus
This is a typical tubular mushroom that you often find in coniferous and mixed forests between June and November. The chestnut boletus is a typical mycorrhizal fungus of the spruce, ie it always lives in symbiosis with spruce trees.
Tips
You can distinguish the chestnut bolet from other boletus by applying light pressure on the tubes. Then the pale to green-yellow tubes turn dark blue.
