If the tree is given enough space for this, the pruning can be limited to removing dead and broken branches.
Shape the crown in a targeted manner
The plane tree's good tolerance to pruning means that its crown is specifically shaped, especially in smaller home gardens. The basis is often an already grown tree from the nursery, the shape of which must be used as a basis for the ongoing pruning measures. The most popular is the education to a roof tarpaulin. Tools and aids
Sycamore trees grow very large over time. To have access to all the branches, you need to climb a high ladder. This should have a secure footing. The tool should be sharp and clean so that they leave smooth and clean cut surfaces. This promotes rapid healing and thus prevents fungal pathogens from entering.
Tips
Wear a face mask when cutting leafy plane trees. The leaves have fine hairs that break off and can be inhaled. In sensitive people this is said to lead to allergies.
Cut the roof tarpaulin
With the first cut, the top of the tree is cut and all vertical branches are removed. The side branches are tied horizontally to a previously erected bamboo frame or intertwined with it. Cutting the roof shape follows these rules:
- cut twice a year
- before June 24th and end of August
- Completely remove vertical new drives
- guide lateral shoots horizontally
- Do not cut main branches

The summer pruning measures should not be done in the blazing sun. Better to cut on an overcast day.
Thinning out the high trunk
If a high trunk is to be freed from annoying branches or if the tree is to be cut back radically, you should wait until it is dormant. In summer, too much leaf mass, which the tree urgently needs to build up power reserves, would possibly be removed. The months of January and February are ideal. The carrier should be dry and frost-free.
Other pruning measures
You can remove dry and broken branches at any time. This also applies to the cutting of shoot tips that are suffering from a fungal attack.
Very large trees are difficult to reach even with a simple ladder. A specialist company with the appropriate equipment can be commissioned with the cutting.
