Japanese dogwood - a light, partially shaded location is ideal

The golden mean is spot on

However, the Japanese dogwood only develops its wonderful flowers and autumn foliage color in one corresponding location. In contrast to native dogwood species, the exotic places great value on a balanced location with lots of light, but not too much sunlight. A place in the light penumbra or in the sun is perfect for the Japanese dogwood, as long as it does not have to be in the hottest midday sun.

Soil should be rich in nutrients and well drained

Choose a loose, very well drained, nutrient-rich and humus-rich soil for this dogwood. This should also contain no lime if possible, which is why the plant is best watered with very soft water (e.g. rainwater).

Tips

The Japanese dogwood harmonises wonderfully with vigorously blooming perennials such as delphinium, daylily or sunbeam.
