Distance in the hedge and as a single tree

Thuja emerald is not the ideal planting for the hedge. Although it grows very narrowly, it needs a greater planting distance than other thuja varieties.

In the hedge, the distance should be at least 60 cm, even better 80 cm. It therefore takes a relatively long time for a thuja emerald hedge to grow so strong that it is opaque.

When caring for a solitary plant, a planting distance of at least one meter to other garden plants is advisable.

Distance to properties and paths

Thuja emerald is very sensitive to road salt and thus gets brown tips. The tree of life should therefore be planted far enough away from roads that are strewn in winter.

The roots will hardly damage underground utilities, but after a long time they can lift patio slabs and sidewalks. Keep a safe distance.
