Carnations in the garden
Carnations that are planted in the garden do not usually need special winter protection, but can be left as they are. In spring, you should only cut away any frozen parts of the plant in biennial or perennial varieties. Since many carnation species are basically only one to two years old, the question of wintering is superfluous. However, in this case you should ensure timely propagation.

Carnations in the pot
In contrast to carnations, pot carnations should be protected from unfavorable temperatures as the roots in the planters can quickly freeze to death. So place the carnations on a surface, for example made of Styrofoam, and in a protected corner. You should also not forget to water the plants in winter - but only on frost-free days.
Tips
If you want to multiply your carnations by cuttings: in regions with mild winter conditions, you can plant the cuttings directly in autumn, then they will take root on the spot.
