Toxicity
Powdery mildew is not toxic, but it should still be handled with caution. You can eat fruits and herbs without hesitation, not least because you should generally wash harvested vegetables well beforehand. Since there was a risk of considerable losses in crop yield, many farmers also process plants that have been infected with powdery mildew and sell them.

Consequences of an allergic reaction
However, you may be allergic to the fungus that causes powdery mildew. The following complaints are to be expected in this case:
- Indigestion
- stomach pain
- Breathing problems
- itching
- Reddening of the skin
Better to wear protective clothing
The above-mentioned body reactions occur in allergy sufferers especially after eating plants that have been infected with powdery mildew. In addition, these occur in a reduced form when substances from the fungus are inhaled. Therefore, when treating infested plants, always wear protective clothing such as a face mask and, above all, gloves. The latter also protect against the fungus sticking to the fingers and later getting into the digestive tract.
Biological control
If you want to control powdery mildew, consider using mild home remedies over chemical fungicides. Although powdery mildew is not poisonous, these pesticides represent an increased health risk. Fruit and vegetables in particular are often no longer suitable for consumption after spraying.
