Vegetative and generative reproduction
It is possible to pull a cherry tree from a core. However, the risk that the cherry tree will not have the desired characteristics with this type of reproduction (generative or sexual) is too great. After all, each core is the product of two parent cherry trees that have a different genetic makeup. As is the case with human children, it is impossible to predict which genes will prevail after the chromosome division and rearrangement.

In order to avoid this uncertainty, the fruit trees are propagated vegetatively through grafting. To do this, the so-called noble rice (the piece of shoot equipped with the desired characteristics) is grafted onto a wildling (the so-called base). The rootstock determines whether the cherry tree grows quickly or slowly, upright or bushy. The noble rice is responsible for the quality of the fruit, resistance to fungi, sensitivity to frost and yield.
Cut and graft noble rice
The precious journeys are cut from healthy, fertile trees between December and January. Only annual long shoots are suitable for refinement. These have a lighter bark than the older wood and no branches, but rather have buds. You cut the precious trip with a sharp knife at the base. Ideally, these are pencil-thick and around 30-40 cm long.
The next step is to prepare the base. To do this, the cherry tree to be grafted is cut back so far before it shoots that only a tensile load remains next to the crown stump. The precious journeys are placed behind the bark of the base and firmly connected to it. One differentiates

The finishing point is connected with raffia and coated with tree wax (€ 5.99 at Amazon *). In the following years, the crown is built up through the appropriate cut. The first harvest can be expected in 4-5 years.
Tips & Tricks
The precious travels obtained in winter are kept cool, damp and dark until spring, e.g. B. in a box filled with damp sand in the basement.
