Dry with patience or in the drying chamber

A freshly cut tree grate is only suitable for further use if the wood moisture content is 10 to 20 percent. Sanding and oiling damp or even wet wood is doomed to failure because the pores are not absorbent. To dry a tree slice, the following options are available:

Open-air drying in an airy, rain-protected location: Duration 6 months to 2 years
Drying in the carpenter's drying chamber: duration 2 to 6 weeks (depending on the type of wood)

Grinding and Oiling Dried Tree Slice - How To Do It Right

The dried tree grate is ready for a professional surface treatment. The aim is first to smooth the wood surface, and then to apply a nourishing oil. How to grind and oil correctly:

First work on the wooden surface with 100 to 120 grit sandpaper
Water the surface with a damp sponge so that the remaining wood fibers straighten up
Fine sanding is done with a grain size of 180 to 200

Now apply the wood oil to the smooth surface with a soft brush. Oil the tree grate repeatedly until no more wood oil seeps into the pores. After waiting 30 minutes, remove the remaining oil with a soft cloth. The wooden disc should then dry for at least 8 hours. The next day, sand lightly over the wood with a 240 grit and oil the surface again.

Tips

Impregnated wooden discs are perfect for covering tree discs in a natural way. The slices of thick logs that are cut to a thickness of 7 to 8 cm are well suited. A bed of sand is sufficient as a substructure for the laying. The gaps can be filled with ornamental gravel or bark mulch.
