Cordyline australis and indivisia are cold house club lilies. They tolerate cooler temperatures and are allowed outside in summer.

How do club lilies have to be watered?

Regular watering is important in summer. The root ball should never dry out completely. Waterlogging must not occur! Very little water is poured in winter.

Use warmed, lime-free water and increase the humidity by spraying the leaves occasionally.

When is fertilization carried out?

During the growth phase, fertilize the club lily every two weeks as instructed. A commercially available liquid fertilizer is sufficient.

Stop fertilizing in winter.

Can you cut club lilies?

If necessary, prune the club lily in spring. You can cut off dried leaves continuously.

Do you need to repot the club lily?

Repot Cordyline in spring. Every two or three years it should be put in fresh soil and a larger pot.

What diseases and pests to watch out for?

  • Root rot
  • Spider mites
  • Aphids

Most problems arise when the plant is too wet. This encourages root rot and the spread of spider mites.

Always throw away excess irrigation water immediately and increase the humidity more often by spraying.

How do you care for club lilies in winter?

Varieties for the warm house remain in their place. You also need temperatures between 18 and 22 degrees in winter. Just water less and stop fertilizing almost entirely. Occasional spraying protects against dehydration and pest infestation.

Cold house varieties overwinter in a bright place with temperatures between eight and twelve degrees.

Tips

In the south of England the club lily can be admired all year round in many gardens. This is due to the mild climate caused by the Gulf Stream. There the not hardy plant can be cared for outdoors all year round.
