Why you should prune a money tree

Use a sharp and above all clean knife for cutting. Use scissors to pinch the soft branches too tightly.

The best time to prune money trees
You can prune back a money tree all year round. The houseplant is well tolerated by pruning and sprouts reliably again.
Early spring is particularly favorable, before the money tree sprouts again. It is also a good time to prune immediately after flowering. Then do not accidentally remove inflorescences.
How to properly cut the penny tree
When pruning back the money tree to make the trunk thicker, remove any lower branches and leaves. But remember that the plant will not sprout again at the interfaces.
A strong pruning promotes the formation of new shoots. If you shorten old branches, they will branch particularly well. The penny tree then appears more compact and dense.
Drooping branches don't just look ugly. Their weight can cause the whole plant to twist or break off. You either cut such branches or tie them up on supports. After a while, the branches will stay in the desired position by themselves.
Care after cutting
After pruning, the money tree recovers within a very short time. It then strikes particularly vigorously and sometimes needs more nutrients. Treat it to some fresh substrate or provide it with a little more fertilizer.
After pruning, do not put the money tree in the blazing sun right away, but give it some time to get used to a sunny location.
Maintain money tree as a bonsai
You can also keep a money tree very well as a bonsai. The upright tree shape or the baobab shape are particularly decorative as growth forms.
Money trees are not wired because the branches are very soft and break too quickly. They are raised or brought into the desired shape by means of supports.
Tips
A money tree that is kept as a pure houseplant usually does not bloom. If you want flowers to develop, you need to put the penny tree outside over the summer. Blossoms can only be formed when the temperature changes.
