A dirty carburetor brings the lawnmower out of sync
A common cause of engine problems on lawn mowers is a dirty carburetor. In view of the constant exposure to grass, earth, twigs and leaves, it is hardly surprising that deposits form here. If a gasoline mower stutters and smokes, put the carburetor on a cleaning program. How to proceed properly:
- Close the fuel line or empty the fuel tank
- Remove the carburetor according to the manufacturer's instructions
- Remove all seals and replace them with new ones from a specialist dealer
- Fill a sufficiently large container with white spirit and place the carburetor inside
- Meanwhile, blow out each nozzle with compressed air or clean it with a fine wire

Finally, get the carburetor out of the benzine and rub it dry with a rag. Again, refer to the instruction manual to help you install the carburetor. The installation of the carburetor is less complicated if you document every work step with a photo when removing it. This is particularly helpful if the manual is difficult to understand or does not exist.
Readjust Carburetor - How To Do It Right
After cleaning, the carburetor is readjusted. After you have installed the freshly cleaned carburetor, start the lawnmower. How to regulate the motor:
- Screw in the adjusting screw with the spring on the carburettor a little
- The engine speed increases
- Adjust the second adjusting screw for the amount of fuel until the engine runs smoothly
In the last step, unscrew the adjusting screw with the spring a little to reverse the short-term increase in the engine speed.
Tips
If a lawnmower stutters and smokes immediately after it has been serviced, the machine has most likely been tipped incorrectly. To access the cutter bar, always tilt your lawn mower with the spark plug upwards. Otherwise, the air filter, spark plug and cylinder head will be flooded with engine oil, causing the engine to run unevenly and emitting smoke.
